Zya Daniela Saucedo, Harbor Steps

Even though the whole house was packed into boxes and the movers were coming to take everything away, they asked me to take pictures so that when she's a little bit bigger,

they can show her and say,

"Zya

Daniela

Saucedo,

this is the first place

you ever lived."

They can say, "From the window, you could see across the harbor

to Alki Beach. You could watch

the ferries gliding back and forth

from here

to Bainbridge Island,

and sometimes seagulls

flew so close

to the window

their wings almost

brushed the glass."

At night,

we watched the sunset

turn the harbor pink

and watched the stars come out and the Great Wheel

would light up

purple-blue-green

and turn

and turn and turn."
